Local Junior High 2012 WWE Reading Challenge WINNER, Josh, won an all expense paid trip for two to Miami, Florida in April to compete in the National Reading Challenge. Josh wrote a 100 word persuasive letter (to convince WWE star Randy Ortman to read Tom Sawyer). His letter won Regionals. Josh was one of fifteen other Junior/Senior High students across the US and Canada who went to Miami to compete in a Quiz Bowl about the book After Tupac and D Foster. Great Effort, Josh! The WWE Nationals was "Awesome" and Josh personally met many WWE stars! The WWE Wrestlemania XXVIII was WAY COOL, too! |

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK-APRIL 10-16 DID YOU KNOW? The North Dakota State Library facilitates 34,000 interlibrary loans annually, offers numerous trainings free of charge, and awards $800,000 grants each year to public/school libraries across the state. North Dakota has 93 public libraries with over 220 full-time staff who answer approximately 400,000 questions per year. Attendance at public libraries totals over 2 million per year. North Dakota has 380 school libraries with 294 school librarians teaching students in North Dakota K-12. ***To Celebrate April's National Library Week - Fessenden-Bowdon K-12 Library will host Poetry Podcasts for National Poetry Month & Knock Knock Joke Podcasts for National Humor Month both recognized in the month of April. ![]() Preschool Teacher, Erica Jones, the Assistant, Melissa Neumiller, and the morning/afternoon Preschoolers learn about the library resources. Mrs. O, Library Media Specialist, demonstrated to the classes how to use the laptop and Promethean ActivBoard to access the Fessenden-Bowdon School website. Students then click “Media Center”, then ”Explore & Learn” - from their they can choose interactive learning websites. For example: Sesame Street, Little Amadeus Music, Clifford the Big Red Dog. Students interact with the websites through the ActivBoard’s pen.
Preschoolers also learned about accessing the children’s online digital library called “Tumble Books” which is found on the library homepage at the top. Click link called “Tumble Books”-then click the red oval entitled ’storybooks’. Stories are listed by their title alphabetically. Stories offer quizzes, puzzles, and games to further language arts learning.
Preschoolers then learned about the www.starfall.com website that teaches the alphabet and their sounds using interactive games.
Preschoolers love coming to the digital library twice a month. They are getting ”tech” smart! |
